Hungry Yet?…Buon Appetito!

We walked across the street directly to Buon Appetito in Little Italy, briefly checking out the menu for a guilt-free salad to justify eating Tiramisu, although I think after this fortuitous coincidence we could have justified having ‘dessert first’ or maybe even dessert ONLY!

Buon Appetito is a quaint little place bustling with activity. There is sidewalk seating, but we opt to sit inside where we can immerse ourselves in the charming atmosphere. The noise level is high with lively conversations, many in Italian. The friendly efficient waiters are busy attending patrons and supplying warm soft fresh-baked Italian bread and olive oil for dipping–I hadn’t counted on that, but I didn’t turn it down either!!

The salad choices are plentiful as are other intriguing and mouthwatering menu items.

The Portobella Mushroom appetizer, (stuffed with bread crumbs and Italian herbs served over spring mix salad,) catches our attention but I also want to make sure I have a healthy serving of salad greens.

The Insalata Fantasia (pear slivers and crumbles of Gorgonzola over escarole and baby greens with raspberry vinaigrette) sounds light and refreshing as a complement to the meatier Portobella Mushrooms, so we decide to order both and share, getting a taste of each!

The appetizer arrives with two large Portobella mushrooms on a large plate of mixed greens –definitely qualifying as a salad meal by itself! Between the two, we have managed a nice ‘salad’ lunch with plenty of greens! — and very happy to have had more than just the dessert!

I make a mental note to definitely come back to Buon Appetito to sample some of the entrees such as “Sea Scallops sauteed in a garlic white wine and served over sauteed spinach”; or  “Trio Seafood:  Grilled Shrimp, Sea Scallops and Salmon served over fresh spinach and tomato and finished in a lemon garlic sauce”; or how about ‘Baci di Daniela filled with lobster and cheese in a champagne cream sauce with asparagus” …mmm hungry yet? But for today, it is SALAD (and Tiramisu!)…and Portobella Mushroom appetizer.

This is the place we went to! I stayed over one night in San Diego after the astrology workshop in May, because my plane
back to Durango left the next morning. Went for a walk by the bay and through Seaport Village with 2 other ladies. As we wandered back up to our hotel, found Buon Appetito on the way–just a random choice but a good one! It had good atmosphere, reasonable prices and excellent food. Julie does a great writeup! Definitely want to try it again in July
